Cat Care
Cats are Special and Need Specialized Care!
Routine health care refers to the non-emergency, general care that is needed to keep your cat healthy throughout its life. This includes routine veterinary care for vaccinations, parasite control, dental care, proper nutrition, grooming, and protection from household hazards.
Importance of Veterinary Care
Adult cats should have a complete veterinary examination at least once a year. Kittens need veterinary visits usually every 3 to 4 weeks until they are about 4 months old. Geriatric cats (more than 7 to 8 years old) should see their veterinarian twice a year or more frequently because illness is more common in older pets and should be identified sooner to provide proper treatment. We may recommend a wellness schedule for your pet, such as routine blood tests to monitor for early kidney or thyroid disease.

Diagnostic Laboratory Services
We offer a wide range of in-house laboratory testing, allowing us to provide same-day results for most services.
For certain specialized tests that require an outside laboratory, results are typically available within 24–72 hours. This ensures we can deliver timely, accurate information to support the best care for your pet.
Kitten Education
Welcoming a new kitten into your home is an exciting time! Our team is here to support you and provide guidance as your newest family member grows. During your kitten’s visits, we’ll cover important topics such as litter training, vaccination schedules, dental care, flea and tick control, heartworm prevention, and tips for making your home safe and comfortable for your new friend.
To help you get started, we also provide a kitten starter kit to take home after your first visit, filled with helpful resources to ensure your kitten receives the best possible care.
Microchip Insertion & Identification Service
We understand how heartbreaking it can be when a pet goes missing. To help increase the chances of a safe return, we recommend and offer microchipping—a simple, quick procedure in which a tiny chip is placed just under your pet’s skin.
Each microchip contains a unique identification number that can be read with a scanner, allowing lost pets to be reunited with their families. Without a microchip, it may be difficult for a lost pet to find their way home.
Ophthalmology
Eye health is an important part of your pet’s overall well-being. Even subtle changes in the appearance of the eyes can be a sign of underlying health issues.
Our team offers comprehensive eye care, including glaucoma screening with tonometry (eye pressure testing), as well as detailed evaluation of the eyes and surrounding tissues using specialized equipment.
We can also perform additional tests to assess tear production and check the integrity of the cornea, ensuring your pet receives thorough and accurate care.
Orthopedic Services
Lameness is a very common problem in our pet population. We offer complete orthopedic evaluations and treatment on an outpatient basis. Further surgical procedures including cranial cruciate ligament repair, femoral head resection, and fracture repair can be performed at our Orrville Veterinary Clinic.
We perform many examinations each year on animals that are lame or limping. Many times, radiographs are necessary to evaluate the limbs, pelvis, and spine.
Parasite Control
Cats can acquire parasite infestations, both internally and externally. We utilize the most recent medications, treatments and preventatives that are available to manage these parasites.
Internal parasites include Heartworms, Hookworms, Roundworms, Whipworms, Tapeworms, Giardia, and Coccidia. Each parasite can be treated specifically after being diagnosed by one of our veterinarians.
External parasites include fleas, ticks, ear mites, sarcoptic mange, and demodex mites. These can be prevented and controlled using various products and methods. In addition to concerns about the parasites themselves, several of these parasites are the cause (or carrier) of other diseases, such as Lyme Disease.
Pharmacy and Prescription Services
Medications are often an essential part of providing the best care for your pet. Our in-house pharmacy allows us to customize treatments to meet your pet’s specific needs.
If a medication is not available at our clinic, we can quickly order it, have it shipped directly to your home, or provide a prescription for your preferred pharmacy—ensuring your pet receives the care they need without delay.
Physical Examinations
Regular physical examinations are a cornerstone of quality pet care. Because pets age more quickly than humans, they benefit from more frequent check-ups than once a year.
At each visit, we perform a thorough examination before any procedures or treatments, allowing us to detect many conditions early—often before noticeable symptoms appear. Even small concerns can sometimes indicate larger underlying health issues.
In addition to general exams, we offer specialized evaluations, including ocular (eye) exams, orthopedic assessments, neurological exams, external parasite checks, and more, ensuring your pet receives comprehensive and proactive care.
Preventative Health Care
Preventative care is about much more than vaccinations. Our team is dedicated to educating pet owners on proper vaccination schedules, parasite prevention, nutrition, and weight management.
By focusing on proactive health care, we help ensure your pet enjoys a long, healthy, and happy life.
Referral Service
Occasionally a pet may require the care of a specialist. Veterinary specialists are certified and trained in specific areas of medicine or surgery.
We have a relationship with several referral institutions. These facilities offer specialized care in internal medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, surgery, dermatology, radiology, ultrasonography, cardiology, and oncology.
Senior Wellness Program
Pets are considered seniors around age seven. During these years, their health can change quickly, making early disease detection essential for maintaining quality of life.
Frequent testing allows us to identify potential health issues as early as possible. Recommended evaluations may include a
complete blood count (CBC), blood chemistry profile, urinalysis, fecal examinations, ProBNP, EKG, blood pressure screening, and glaucoma screening. Additional tests may be suggested based on your pet’s individual needs, ensuring a personalized approach to senior care.
Vaccination Services
While wellness care includes many aspects of health, vaccinations remain one of the most effective ways to protect your cat from serious diseases. We carefully select vaccines from trusted providers to ensure both safety and effectiveness, and we follow the latest vaccination guidelines, including those published by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).
Recommended vaccinations for cats include:
- RCP (Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia)
- Feline Leukemia
- Rabies
By keeping your cat up to date on vaccines, you are helping provide one of the best defenses for a long, healthy life.
